Seven tourists in Fiji are in critical condition after being hospitalized for suspected alcohol poisoning. The individuals, aged between 18 and 56, reportedly fell ill after consuming cocktails at a resort bar on Saturday night local time.

Shortly after consuming the drinks, the tourists exhibited symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and neurological distress. They were initially admitted to Sigatoka Hospital but were later transferred to Lautoka Hospital for further treatment.

Local media, citing Fiji’s health ministry, reported that four of the seven affected individuals are Australian nationals, and two Australian families are receiving consular support from their government.

This case comes just weeks after six tourists died in Laos due to suspected methanol poisoning, raising concerns about the safety of alcohol in the region. Methanol poisoning often results from improperly distilled or adulterated alcoholic beverages and can cause severe health complications or fatalities.
