Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has called on his teammates to focus on building their own legacy as they continue their push for the Premier League title in their first season under manager Arne Slot.
The Reds currently lead the table, sitting six points clear of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.
Reflecting on Past Success
Alisson, who played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s 2019-20 title-winning campaign under Jurgen Klopp, emphasized that the current squad has a unique identity.
“That team was really special,” Alisson said. “We achieved great things, ending a 30-year wait for a Premier League title. But this is a different group, and the focus is on what we can achieve now.”
The Brazilian goalkeeper, along with eight other players, including Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah, remains from that historic squad. However, Alisson noted the changes under Slot’s leadership and the influx of new talent, including Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister.
“What makes me happy is this group of players — we have the quality to do something special. The most important thing is the commitment needed to win, and this team has that,” he added.

A New Style Under Arne Slot
Slot, who joined from Feyenoord last summer, has brought a more possession-based approach compared to Klopp’s high-intensity, transition-heavy system.
“I don’t think it is too similar [to Klopp’s style],” Alisson observed. “We play with more ball possession now. Before, it was really straightforward, a lot of transitions and intensity.”
This tactical shift, combined with key performances from both seasoned players and new signings, has seen Liverpool surge ahead in the title race.

Looking Ahead
As the Reds prepare to face West Ham on Sunday, Alisson remains focused on the present.
“We don’t have to compare ourselves with teams of the past. We have to create our own history this season, this group,” he said.
With memories of Liverpool’s 2018-19 campaign, where a 10-point lead was lost to Manchester City, Alisson is keen to avoid complacency. Maintaining momentum will be crucial as Slot’s side continues their pursuit of another Premier League crown.
